There is concern once again in the medical community about the ability of additive chemicals to migrate from the surface of plastic formulations into physiological fluids and other therapeutic preparations.
Specifically, there has been a call for the National Institutes of Health to examine the effects of diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) in the various forms in which it can enter and then be processed by the human body.
This concern has also prompted the segment of the health-care industry dealing with the collection and storage of blood and blood components to develop new packaging to ensure safe administration of these products to patients.
